Ben Mahony
is an Apathy is Boring artist.
Ben Mahony plays energetic modern rock with passionate
intensity then waxes softly on a 12-string acoustic
guitar depending on the audience in question and the
feel of the venue. His recordings feature catchy post
punk pop tunes and lyrics tinged with sadness,
political awareness and the absurd. Recently, Mahony
has been playing solo acoustic sets on his chiming
12-string guitar. These quieter folky sets are
thoughtful and humourous.
Mahony was recently featured on CKRW AM in Whitehorse
as the Yukon artist of the day. He has played
frequently in the Yukon recently playing solo acoustic
shows featuring new original material which is
available for download at benmahony.com as well as at

Interview
What music are you listening to / art are you checking
out these days?
I am listening to retro surf band, The Reverberators
from Vancouver, and still to The Shins and Arcade Fire
whenever I get the chance.
Why should people, especially youth, vote?
Voting is crucial to the expression of your rights as
per Section 3 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms to
not only vote but also to run for election. If you are
disillusioned by the mainstream parties check out the
Rhino party, a write in vote or as a final protest
vote, spoil your ballot.
For you, is there a connection between art and
democracy? What is it?
On a visceral/guttural level art is a way to either
express frustration and/or to inspire. Music,
painting, found art, or computer art (to name a few)
offer ways to relieve tension created by urban
alienation or northern isolation. Try it, you'll like
it....
