Sarah Siddiqui
is an Apathy is Boring artist.
Sarah Siddiqui has been intensely honing her soulful folksy sound for the past 9 years in Toronto. Her lyrical and vocal style could be described as warm, vibrant, and gutsy. Sarah’s songs always stem from an honest well of emotions. Now at 24 years of age, she has over 3 albums worth of original songs and is currently in the studio recording her first cd for release (Lotus Laden). She is solely writing and producing the record. With crystal clear ideas, Sarah will be giving the record a very lush yet sparse sound comprising of a mixture of Canadian and Pakistani elements. Her South Asian background takes form in her melodies and pure tone of voice. Sarah’s parents were born in Pakistan and immigrated to Canada where she was born. Having a rich and diverse view of the world, Sarah brings a lot of fresh perspectives to her music. Her mother, Syeda Nuzhat Siddiqui is an internationally acclaimed peace poet of Urdu literature. An influential force, Sarah began writing poetry and songs at the age of 9, and began performing live venues at 15 years of age....

Interview
What music are you listening to / art are you checking out these days?
Right now I've been listening to the new Paul Simon cd, it was introduced to my by my producer/friend Don Kerr.
Why should people, especially youth, vote?
As cliche as this may sound, youth are the future. In order to be heard we have to step up and create a strong identity...and that involves action. Our society operates on a systematic basis, and so if that's the way it is, we all gotta get comfortable with the systems, and that includes voting. You want change? Then step up and vote.
For you, is there a connection between art and democracy? What is it?
I think a connection between art and anything that the artist feels passionate about can be done. On a personal note when it comes to the process of creating art, it usually stems from personal life experiences and relating to the world on a universal level. On an individual level I am very passionate about social justice issues....

Quotes
“Sarah Siddiqui has a very unique and soulful voice and her songs are strangely exotic and familiar at the same time, she’s also a true beauty”.
---Ron Sexsmith www.RonSexsmith.com
“Sarah Siddiqui is a rarity. Beyond the obvious, with her stunning beauty, Sarah is an amazing singer, guitarist, and songwriter. She sings and writes from the depths of her soul…deeper than many musicians are willing to go. I have always admired Sarah’s honesty with her music and with people around her. If you don’t already know about this girl, you had better pay attention now…before her audience becomes too large for you to even see the stage!”
