A Leaf in the Whirlwind

From October 10 to 28 2007

Montréal, October 9 2007 2007 – The Teesri Duniya Theatre debuts its 2007-2008 season with a production of a multilingual dance-theatre show entitled A Leaf in the Whirlwind «Une feuille dans un tourbillon », co-presented with the MAI from October 10 to 28 2007.

Based on a story by writer Lalithambika Antherjanam and adapted for the stage byJody Essery, this play marries theatre with a contemporary interpretation of Bharatanatyam Indian dance. A Leaf in the Whirlwind tells the story of a woman whose child is the result of a rape during the war.

The Teesri Duniya Theatre is proud to work with director Aparna Sindhoor, a choreographer and dancer originally from Mysore in India. Aparna creates intimacy on stage and brings in the audience with the finesse and originality born of Indian dance.

Aparna Sindhoor directs an international troupe, including two of the most well-known and accomplished artists from India, Anil Natyaveda et Pratheesh Sivanandan. With special participation from established artists from the local contemporary scene such as; Marjolayne Auger, Tomomi Morimoto et Michèle Parent, we invite  you to discover not only a transnational and multicultural ensemble, but also, a new form of dance-theatre rarely seen in Canada.

The dance-theatre of Aparna Sindhoor is a provocative form of art that evokes artistic beauty all the while exploring the social and political consequences of war, genocide, rape, deportation, and exile. A Leaf in the Whirlwind is at once captivating and controversial.
