The Canadian Commission for UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) is currently looking for participants, aged between 18 and 30, interested in participating in a youth consultation on the following themes:
 
·       Education and economic development
 
·        Science and technology for sustainable development
 
·        Young people and the dialogue among civilizations, cultures and peoples
 
* Note that a background document will be sent to selected participants.
 
Consultations will be held in Montreal, Ottawa/Gatineau and Vancouver.  Note that the Commission will not cover travel fees for participants outside these three regions.
 
Interested people living outside of the cities mentioned above are invited to apply for participating in the online consultation (date to be confirmed).    This online consultation is possible through the support of TakingITGlobal.
 
The Consultations’ outcome will be used as the foundation for the Canadian position at the UNESCO Youth Forum, which will be held in Paris, France, October 12-13, 2007.  For more information on this event please refer to http://portal.unesco.org/shs/en/ev.php-URL_ID=11084&URL_DO=DO_TOPIC&URL_SECTION=201.html
 
Dates of the consultations are the following:
 
Montreal: Monday, September 10, 2007
Ottawa/Gatineau: Friday, September 7, 2007
Vancouver: Monday, September 17, 2007 (date to be confirmed)
Online: date to be confirmed (end of August / early September 2007)
 
Qualification Criteria for Selection
 
Participants for the Youth Consultation will be selected based on their experience and commitment in line with youth and/or one or more of the three themes above-mentioned.  The Commission is looking for youth who:
are between 18 and 30 years old;
are Canadian citizens or landed immigrants;
demonstrate an expertise in at least one of the three themes of the Youth Consultation;
demonstrate knowledge and/or experience in UNESCO-related issues;
demonstrate interest in and have knowledge of their local and/or provincial youth community;
have experience within a group, an association or an organisation working with and/or for youth issues;
are able to express views effectively in both oral and written forms;
are available on the date of the consultation in their area/online.

Your application must include:
 
·         A cover letter explaining why you believe you are a good candidate to attend this event and what your participation would bring to you;
·         A résumé;
·         A 500 words text presenting your previous/current experience in line with one (or more) of the three themes;
·         Answers to the questions below;
