So You’re Not Going to Vote
by Apathy is Boring — June 26, 2007
Neither were we. It won't change things. The whole political process is flawed and corrupt. Fine, we agree with you. Things are in a serious way these days, and you voting probably won't make a difference.
The thing is, that not only did you not vote in the last election, neither did 75% of your friends and enemies. But numbers don't lie. 7 million votes...do add up.
So if you want to make the politicians squirm or tell them they are doing a good job, you are going to have to vote this time around.
We started The Apathy Is Boring Project because even if the politicians don't always care about what we have to say, they can't ignore 7 million of us going to the polls.
Apathy Is Boring is about dialogue between us and them.
Yes, our intent is to get you to vote. If all of us voted, the results would be drastically different in any upcoming election. So if you're fed up or tired or unhappy with those Ottawa people making all of your decisions for you, challenge them... because they won't notice if you don't.
If you could ask one question or raise a concern with any of the political leaders, what would it be? Email us at info@apathyisboring.com.
Still not convinced? Here are three more arguments from Get Your Vote On:
It’s Not Worth It!
Politicians don’t listen. My vote doesn’t make a difference. I don’t know anything about politics. None of it affects me anyway. They’re all crooks. I don’t believe in the system. I don’t have time. Sound familiar? Well, you’re right about some of these things, some of the time. But there’s other ways to think about politics. Let us convince you:
Soft sell
If we don’t vote – those in power have no reason to care about our issues or us. Voting won’t change things overnight – but it is a tool. It’s one way to make the world more like the place you want it to be
Hard sell
Get off your can and vote ya spoiled brat. If you don’t vote NO ONE wants to listen to you whine or complain next time round. Not one word!!! So shut up and sit down! Oh and if you don’t vote – you can’t take credit for anything either – so there!
Over-easy sell
People fought hard for your right to vote. We’re talking about democracy here. It is not a given. It is not something that will always be around for us whenever we decide we need it. Democracy has to be fed if it’s going to stay alive
Remember – fifty years from now, those in power won’t be here, but we will. It makes no sense to let other people shape our futures
