In response to the blog Four Against One
I guess I may have to be a bit of the Devil's Advocate with this one. After watching last night's debate I was actually excited to vote.
Finally.
I mean, no one loves a good election more than I do, well, probably plenty of people do but I am all for going out and voting (not every year, mind you). I could sense a bit of "ganging up" on Harper and the Conservatives, but likely, I assume, that has more to do with the fact he represents the party in power. I, again also presuming, think that the leaders of opposing parties not only have the authority to debate in such a way but even a duty to do so.
I think the issues are what's important and a lot of them came up last night. I think it's critical for everyone to be informed on "the issues" (whatever they may be to you) and of the utmost importance that the leaders of our federal political parties are! I think this debate provides a great forum to evaluate that criteria.
I also have to contrast the Canadian Leadership debate with the American Vice-Presidents debate, that I watched immediately following, last night. The tone was so drastically different for me. I was rather shocked. It made me realize that it was not necessarily the issues being addressed (as both debates covered some doozies) but a lot to do with the structure and the form of delivery. I'd really like to challenge someone to disagree with me on this one but that Canadian Leaders' debate rocked the socks off the American Vice-Pres. one.
I for one, love (!!) the round-table debate. What did everyone else think? Is there a way we can get this kind of passionate information from the wide-spectrum of Canadian political parties (and our federal leaders) throughout the year and not just at "election-promise" time? Would you tune in??
